My lifetime friend and civil rights buddy Charles A Bonner of Selma sent me this 80th birthday song. We were just teenagers when he and Luke Block introduced me taught me how to handle myself on the back roads of Wilcox County AL in the summer voter education registration project. Then we danced our fears away in Selma’s Sugar Shack on Saturday nights. We are so lucky we lived to be old! Although we sadly lost Luke last week, he will live on in our stories and in our hearts.
